May 12-18 is National Nursing Home Week, so we've been in full celebration mode here at Liberty Retirement Community of Lima. While our staff, from administrators to nurses to aides, are dedicated to providing compassionate, quality care for our residents 365 days a year, we take this week to offer a few extra perks. Pictured is resident David Sawyer, enjoying a made-to-order ice cream sundae dished out by our Activities Department. We also spent the week enjoying cookouts, specialty dessert bars, as well as games and special trivia geared towards staff and facility. It's been a wonderful way to show appreciation, and draw our Liberty family together.
Liberty Retirement Community of Lima once again hosted an Easter egg hunt for 57 students from Lima's Center for Autism & Dyslexia. Students, ranging in ages from pre-K through junior high, participated in a hunt, crafts and shared snacks with us. Although weather didn't cooperate and we held everything indoors, residents delighted in hosting, and students enjoyed the activities. Don, (who is pictured) enjoys visiting with the kids and commented that their innocence makes him feel young and spirited again. We hope you and your family enjoyed the holiday also as we reap the blessings of another year.
Liberty Retirement Community of Lima is always seeking out innovative, cutting-edge therapies to offer our residents. Recently, staff members received specialized training in an award-winning program designed to help patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of neurocognitive disorders. The goal of Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is to forge friendships between people suffering from the diseases and trained volunteers and staff, as the residents are guided through art therapy sessions. This evidence-based science, is founded on the fact that creative expression improves their physical and psychological well-being and we're certainly reaping the rewards of everyone's hard work. It's failure-free and the result has been some amazing abstract pieces of art. At the end of the six-week program, residents will compile favorite pieces which will be proudly displayed to family and friends as we host our Art Show. It's a beautiful program that our residents love, and we love our residents!
Liberty Retirement Community of Lima enjoys treating residents and guests to a wide variety of entertainment. We'll use just about any excuse to gather, so we're delighted to host celebrations for birthdays and anniversaries as well as provide regular shows. One group that visits quite regularly are the Golden Aires. This wonderful volunteer group of vocalists are from the local senior center. They're a lively group, that dances with residents and sometimes incorporates them into a show. Although we always look forward to our familiar "oldies" each show reflects a holiday theme and everyone enjoyed the Irish tunes for St. Patrick's Day.
There's always something going on at our community and we make every effort to make it feel like home. Our residents not only enjoy a secure environment, where help is always available, but the sense of camaraderie and vibrant atmosphere make life interesting. We put great effort into providing a wide variety of activities to keep residents physically, spiritually and mentally active. Several church services are offered weekly, along with regular outings to local eateries and points of interest. Pictured, is the spread for our weekly coffee chat where we offer specialty brews like Starbucks and plenty of goodies for the sweet tooth. We recently hosted a Seniors' Prom with the help of the Bradfield Center as well as many amazing volunteers. This event was open to Liberty residents as well as members of the Lima community. The turnout was wonderful, and as you can see, it was a blast! With the help of our volunteers and sponsors, attendees received corsages and boutonnieres, as well as an official prom portrait. Our kitchen staff prepared punch and delicious hors' devours to nibble on as everyone boogied to some great 50's, 60's and 70's music. Our residents are still talking about what a great time they had, so we're already making plans for another prom next year!

National Honor Society students from Ridgemont recently visited our community to spread some Christmas cheer! We enjoyed making knot-tie blankets, paper snowflakes and stars to embellish our dining areas. When we finished with the projects, it was time to reminisce and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies while the students serenaded us with some of our favorite holiday songs! It is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at Liberty!
