An inactive lifestyle can cause older individuals to lose ground in four important areas: strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. But research suggests that exercise and physical activity can help older ones maintain or partly restore these four areas and that's the goal for Mansfield's Therapy and Activities Departments.
Every Wednesday our residents experience a new chair exercise that's been created with safety as the highest priority. This month, we're exploring the fun of Chair Tai Chi. We put on serene music and guide residents to find a quiet relaxing place in their minds allowing their bodies to move with the slow sound of the music. In the past we've enjoyed Zumba chair exercising and next month we'll try chair kickboxing. Our residents enjoy getting to experience new exercises from the comfort of their own chairs.
