When Barbra Wilson came to our facility's dementia unit a little over a year ago she was frequently agitated and combative, making family visits very discouraging at times. Thanks to the keen observation of Diana Johnson, Liberty Mansfield's Dementia Life Enrichment Coordinator, Barbra's talent and deep love of music was uncovered.
After years of being deprived of playing music, Barbra now starts her mornings playing the organ that was moved from the community room to our secure unit. Not only is she calmer and more focused, but family visits have tremendously improved. In fact, some of her family recently flew in from California to visit with her. This is just another testimony to the strength and benefits of our Music & Memory certification program.
