Southerland Gospel singers from Youngstown came to visit us on Sunday, March 16th. They wore sparkling St. Patrick's day gear as they sang, played music and moved with props. They put on quite a show for the residents in attendance. Southerland gospel singers provided tambourines and maracas to the residents so they could join in on the music, which the residents gladly did! The residents enjoyed the laser lights and all the light up props Southerland used during their performance, including a light up bow tie and hat and Brenda's angel wings and fans. Brenda Southerland handed out bibles to the resident who wished to have one and spent time conversing with each resident. We had a full house and the residents are still talking about how much they enjoyed the performance!

Martha had a good time celebrating St Patrick's day on our memory care unit. She enjoyed bringing laughter and joy to those around her while wearing her shamrock glasses. The residents made shamrock necklaces to wear. They also enjoyed making blingy shamrocks! Martha and her fellow residents enjoyed Leprechaun punch, cookies and rainbow fruit while listening to Irish music. We had quite a festive time and those of us in attendance definitely felt lucky to spend time together celebrating!
Here is a photo of one of our STNA,s Kelsa, with our resident, Sharon. Today (3.14) was the nicest day of the year, 72 degrees. Sharon was looking outside, she in non-verbal, but Kelsa anticipated her desire, got her bundled up and took her outside. They did a loop around the parking lot, walking from the back of the building to the front. Sharon very much enjoyed this, she was smiling and happy to be outside in the warm sunshine. Kelsa has been with us for less than 6 months, but she has had a positive influence on our residents, they all love her and tell me that she provides great care and they can tell she really loves her job. We love to get our residents outside and having STNA's who take the time for them shows the residents how important they are to us.
Mark Staicer came to play music for us yesterday. His wife Brenda came, as well, and sang along with the residents. There was a lot of moving and grooving. Most of the residents were able to sing along with all the songs. Mark was very engaging and not only got our feet tapping and hands clapping but engaged our minds, as well, with trivia about some of the songs he sang. The music and Mark's prompts stirred up a lot of memories of good times. There was a full house for the performance and the residents are saying they can't wait to see Mark (and hopefully Brenda, too) next month.
Before beginning rehabilitation, Doris faced significant mobility challenges. She struggled to walk more than 20 feet with a walker and required assistance for transfers and bed mobility due to reduced leg strength. However, after months of dedication and therapy, Doris has made remarkable progress.
